In connection with the company’s mission to provide equal learning and earning opportunities, 51Talk introduces Make the Choice, the company’s jump to a more digital approach.
Through this program, they integrate language and technology which appears to be the perfect fit for Filipinos looking for a career.
The Philippines is known to be very proficient in English, which is why online teaching is a very viable career which can be done by almost anyone.
Make the Choice encourages Filipinos to experience something outside of their comfort zone – an alternative career that allows them to have a healthy balance between work and their personal life. This also gives them the option to work from home and have flexible working hours.
“Having an online classroom allows instructors to create a schedule around their daily routine. Plus, they don’t have to worry about a long commute. This gives them even more time to spend with their families, which we noticed is a priority for most Filipinos”, says 51Talk COO and co-founder, Shu Ting.
51Talk also introduced three ambassadors to help inspire Filipinos – Jim Paredes, Delamar Arias, and Michele Gumabao.
Jim Paredes, engages learners through workshops and classes, and even uses Social Media to educate and empower. Professionals, students, fellow artists and educators look up to Jim because of his ability to remain consistent in his craft.
Award-winning DJ, Delamar Arias, joins the 51Talk team, understanding how mothers would like a flexible schedule and believes that each individual holds in his hand the power to change lives and in the process, earn well, by using their English-speaking abilities.
Because of her busy schedule, athlete and health and wellness advocate Michele Gumabao, has learned how to manage her time wisely. She is proof that with perseverance and patience, you can achieve what you set your mind to.
About 51Talk
51Talk, the premier online English school in China, was founded in 2011 by Huang Jia-jia and Shu Ting. Originally called Talk China, they opened their first office in Huaqingjiayuan on the same year.
Due to unforeseen growth, the team had to restation to a larger office in Wudaoku in 2012.
The demand for learning the English language continued to increase and the 51Talk founders and investors decided to outsource teaching. They didn’t have to search long for competent individuals who had a passion for teaching. In 2013, the first 51Talk office in the Philippines opened. There were only less than 30 people on the team. It wasn’t long after the Manila site was established that another office in Baguio opened.
By the first quarter of 2013, the number of learners reached two hundred thousand, generating a remarkable increase in income. By the end of this year, 51Talk raised the B-round capital from DCM, with an amount of 12 million USD. Before the end of 2013, 51Talk Shanghai opened, resulting in the enhancement of sales in the south west China market.
During the first quarter of 2014, the staff of 51Talk Beijing reached 300 in headcount. The team then relocated to a bigger office space in Xierqi. Maintaining the company’s consistency in growth, the team introduced the 51Talk Club last July 2014 as the first offline experience center of the company, which set the O2O business mode for 51Talk.
As the leading online ESL company in China and the Philippines, 51Talk continues to provide quality education and career stability to learners and e-Educators alike.
