“FWD Life Philippines aims to end the stigma that disability corresponds to inability,” FWD Life
Philippines President and Chief Executive Officer Peter Grimes said. “Through our partnership with
Humanity & Inclusion, we hope to provide a platform for people with disabilities to showcase their
strengths and abilities. We want to encourage everyone to help create a future with a difference for
people with disabilities with opportunities to become valuable and equal contributors to the

disabilities are usually overlooked in employment and entrepreneurship opportunities,” said Bryan
Andrew Marsalis, Humanity & Inclusion Regional Operation Coordinator. “That is why we are very
delighted to have such strong support from FWD Group in our advocacy of improving the lives of
youth with disabilities. Through this project, we will work with selected employers – including FWD

Hamilo Coast & WWF: Nurturing a Sustainable Partnership

The Philippines ranks third in plastic pollution in terms of dumping plastic into our oceans. This is largely caused by inefficient waste disposal in the country and poor awareness of the problem. Because of this, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Philippines, has been closely involved in coastal cleanups and other initiatives around the country to instill the importance of tackling this issue.

On its 11th landmark year, Hamilo Coast and WWF-Philippines’ partnership now stands firmly on environmental programs aimed at not just ending plastic pollution but also at preserving its surrounding nature. Hamilo Coast, with the help of WWF-Philippines, has gone way beyond annual coastal cleanups and has carefully planted sustainability within its day to day operations.

Warriors of the Waters

Acknowledging that everything that happens on the ridge has a direct effect on the reef, WWF-Philippines and Hamilo Coast continue to implement programs for its Ridge to Reef Management. This includes the declaration of Hamilo Coast’s three coves into Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) – Pico de Loro and Etayo coves, and Hamilo Coast’s main marine sanctuary, Santelmo Cove, where giant clams are being cultivated and a vibrant marine life thrive. Ongoing projects to protect coastal and terrestrial resources include mangrove reforestation, pawikan conservation, marine mammal rescue, and reef monitoring.

From Solid Waste to Zero Waste

With efforts to keep the property and surroundings clean and green, WWF-Philippines developed a solid waste management plan for Pico de Loro Cove at Hamilo Coast, including a vermicomposting site aimed at attaining zero green wastes to be sent to landfill.

Early this 2018, Pico de Loro Beach and Country Club and Pico Sands Hotel shifted a few of its operations to become more environmental friendly. The use of plastics have been replaced with paper straws and cups, good grade stirrers, and takeaway packs, which will eradicate the dumping of non-biodegradable waste of 180,000 plastic straws and 27,000 plastic stirrers annually.

42629597_155683742044590_1558760794131267584_n

The Club and Hotel also partnered with WWF-Philippines in implementing a food waste management system, an initiative aimed at urging staff, members, and guests to be more conscious about food resources and waste. With leftover rice noted as one of the highest food waste contributor in the property, the restaurants’ menus now offer rice separately, also considering diners who are non-rice eaters. A campaign to encourage guests to only get the food they can consume in a buffet was also launched in the middle of the year.

Keeping a resort development clean involves maximum effort. Water quality is regularly tested and monitored while waste water from the different locators within Pico de Loro Cove at Hamilo Coast are processed and recycled to keep the lush landscapes clean and green.

Living in Harmony with Nature

Green building strategies were carefully considered in Pico de Loro Cove’s latest luxury beach condominium development, Freia. This mid-rise contemporary tropical condominium building, which offers a spectacular panorama of the sea and verdant mountains, takes pride in its features that allow sustainable green living and consider cost-efficient operations. For instance, natural lighting and ventilation was considered in the building design and solar energy will be used for certain common areas. An efficient waste management system will also ensure reduced carbon footprints on the part of the residential community, thus promising a lifestyle that is not just close to nature but is one with its surrounding environmental bounties.

Through the years, Hamilo Coast continues to champion sustainable practices through luxury seaside living at par with environmental awareness. Achievements and recognitions, such as its Bronze Benchmark Status from Earth Check in 2015 and 2017, and its exemplary practice on solid waste management given by the Department of Natural Resource’s Annual Environmental Summit in 2017, proves Hamilo Coast is not just a destination, but is also becoming a premier sustainable beach resort community.

Hamilo Coast is the SM Group’s premier beach resort town in Nasugbu, Batangas, approximately 90 minutes from Manila via Cavitex and the new Ternate-Nasugbu Road. Its maiden development, Pico de Loro Cove is home to the Pico de Loro Beach and Country Club, an exclusive membership club with a plethora of land- and sea-based recreational facilities, and the Pico Sands Hotel, a seven storey, 154-room hotel offering spacious rooms with modern amenities and captivating views of the lush mountains and tranquil lagoon. Di Na Muli Official Music Video Press Release

Di Na Muli was written in 2016 by long-time friends Jazz Nicolas and Wally Acolola. They entered the song into the 5th Philippine Popular (PhilPop) Music Festival, performed by The Itchyworms, where it won the grand prize. Now, in 2018, the song has been given new life in the official soundtrack of the hit film Sid & Aya (Not A Love Story) (Viva Films, starring Dingdong Dantes and Anne Curtis, directed by Irene Villamor).

Somewhere in between PhilPop and Sid & Aya, the Itchyworms set out to immortalize the song. The result was a visually stunning and emotional music video, directed by Paolo Abella. Help also came along in the form of the video’s co-director Juno Oebanda, longtime friend of the band, and the generous indulgence of none other than the Cultural Center of the Philippines. The link to the CCP is Teddy Hilado (d. 2015), recognized as the father of lighting design in Philippine theater, who is also the uncle of Oebanda

The song’s themes of love, loss, and words left unspoken, are embodied in the elegant performances of Rosky Balahadia Hilado (Teddy’s widow, formerly of the Bayanihan Philippine Dance Company) and Carissa Adea (Ballet Philippines), and in the video’s sweeping visuals, all captured within the hallowed halls of the CCP. The music video seeks to serve as loving tribute to Teddy, whose influence is still felt and recognized to this day.

The Itchyworms are now proud to share what is probably the first-ever music video shot inside the Cultural Center of the Philippines, and extend heartfelt thanks to those who helped bring the music video to fruition.

Verse:
Nung araw kay tamis ng ating buhay
Puno ng saya at ng kulay
Di mauulit muli

Ang oras kapag hinayaang lumipas
Madarama mo hanggang bukas
Di mababawi muli

Chorus:

Patawad muli
Di na muli

Binawi buhay mo ng walang sabi
Binubulong ko sa sarili
Mahal kita hanggang sa huli
Mahal ko hanggang sa huli

Home Credit and Samsung roll out exciting promos for Father’s Day

Thinking of the perfect present? This gift guide might help.

Father’s Day is just around the corner, and what better way to celebrate the heroes of our lives by giving them a special treat to remind them of how much we adore them? For those of you who are drawing a blank on what to give these special men, Home Credit is giving you a treat with its latest rollout of promos for Samsung’s line of phones. After all, is there a better gift than a mobile phone that can help them stay constantly connected with their family?

A is for Awesome

The Galaxy A6 is Samsung’s answer to the mid-range phone market who are looking for a feature-packed smartphone with an affordable price tag. Slim and compact, the Galaxy A6 is designed for the busybodies who want something that’s robust in functions but still slim and compact. Armed with a 3GB RAM and 1.6GHz Exynos 7870 OctaCore processor, the model is ideal for those who need to constantly multi-task with their apps.

In terms of display, the Galaxy A6 is still a performer with its 5.6-inch HD+ Super AMOLED Infinity Display and good color rendition. The man of the house may even take a liking to taking photos and selfies (if he doesn’t fancy it yet!) with the phone’s 16 megapixel rear and front camera. The Galaxy A6 also looks sophisticated with its slender full metal unibody and a fingerprint scanner module.
You can get the Samsung Galaxy A6 through Home Credit’s 9-month, 0% deal from June 7 until September 30. The promo can cover a financed amount ranging from Php 3,000 to Php 12,800.

J6 for the Modern Dad

The Samsung Galaxy J6 model boasts of the features that the brand’s J-series is known for, though it does give a refreshing take when it comes to design. With its 5.6-inch Super AMOLED panels that offer 720 x 1480 pixels, it offers the user crisp colors and contrast that other Samsung models offer. It comes with a sleek body that doesn’t pick up unnecessary smudges from fingerprints while its 8.2mm thickness makes it comfortable to the grip.

In terms of software, the Galaxy J6 runs on the OctaCore 1.6GHz Exynos 7870. The model is also equipped with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage that can hold its own when it comes to performance. If your dad is a lover of mobile games, he will be pleased with the J6’s capacity to support long-term gaming capacity with its 3000mAh battery power.

Home Credit is now offering a six-month, 0% campaign for the Samsung J6 from June 7 until June 30. Just visit any Home Credit partner store to get a financed amount range of Php 3,000 to Php 10,900 off the model!

Go the extra mile with the A6+

The Samsung Galaxy A6+ gets brownie points for its aesthetics and useful software features. Its sturdy metal build is perfect for the minimalist but classy man of the house who values ease of use when it comes to design. The display of the A6+ is impressive as well thanks to the Full HD+ resolution that makes everything bright, crisp, and immersive.

In terms of function, the model uses a 1.8GHz OctaCore Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with 4GB RAM. One particularly nice feature that your father will probably love is Bixby which lets the smartphone remind the user about appointments, find information, and access helpful apps and content. It’s like having a personal file assistant in the palm of your hands!

Camera-wise, the A6+ is set up with a 16 + 5MP Professional Dual Camera and a 24MP front camera. The camera app includes features like AR stickers and selfie focus.

Want to get the Samsung A6+ Home Credit is offering a 12-month, 0% percent promo with a financed amount range of Php 3,000 to Php 17,800 from June 7 to June 30.

Thinking of an ideal gift for the man of the house can be daunting, especially if you also have to consider your budget. Thankfully, Home Credit makes this easier with its friendly in-store financing offerings. To avail them, simply approach a Home Credit sales associate in any of its partner stores, submit two (2) valid IDs, and wait for your application to be processed. Now it’s easier to treat your father with the gift he deserves.

How to scam-proof your travel abroad

Travelling is a great way to unwind and enjoy what life has to offer, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t be mindful of your safety.

Scams abound in every part of the world.  As the travel industry grows in popularity, scammers and other criminals are also growing in numbers, devising ways to trick unsuspecting tourists from transportation overcharge and forced purchases to ATM skimming and credit card fraud.

PSBank advises travelers to exercise caution when setting foot in foreign lands. Here are some safety measures you can take for a scam-free and enjoyable vacation:

Inform your bank or Credit Card Company if you’re travelling outside of the country. Although most banks have systems in place where they will send you an SMS alert to confirm a purchase before they are processed, and/or a text message and email notification to inform you of your transactions, you will be helping your bank monitor and secure your accounts from any suspicious usage by informing them of your travel plans. This way your bank won’t assume that your debit, prepaid or credit card is being used fraudulently and block it.

Be wary of public wifi.

Hackers can easily set up “free” public WiFi networks and bait people to use them so they can sniff your login passwords or use your accounts while you’re still logged in to the websites without the need for your password. Always ask the hotel, coffee shop or airport personnel their valid WiFi hotspots for guests. If you have to connect to a free WiFi network, never use it to log in to your email, social media or bank accounts.

Never provide debit or credit card details via phone, text or email.

Emails and texts were not created with data privacy in mind. Unencrypted email is an unsecure way to send sensitive information. Emails, SMS, or phone calls can be hacked, spoofed, and eavesdropped. When travelling, it is best to avoid providing personal and financial information through these channels.

Look for the lock.

Aside from a web address that begins with “https:” where “s” stands for ‘secure’, a lock icon on your browser is another indication that the site you are on is safe to use. When booking plane tickets and hotels, or when making online purchases, make sure you can see the padlock symbol in the address bar, before you provide your personal or financial details.

Keep your card visible when making payments.

When paying for your purchases and services using your debit or credit card, make sure that they process your payment in your presence. This way, your card is visible and always with you.  Thus, preventing multiple unauthorized card swipes and skimming.

Monitor your accounts regularly.

Monitor your accounts even when you are abroad to ensure that there are no unauthorized transactions. For added security to PSBank Debit and Prepaid Mastercard cardholders, turn on the ATM Lock feature in your PSBank Online or PSBank Mobile App to keep your account safe from ATM skimming and other card-based electronic fraud.

Be vigilant.

If you think that your bank account has been compromised or noticed any suspicious movements, report it immediately by calling your bank’s customer service hotline.

“Learning how to secure your accounts and avoid obvious threats goes a long way in protecting your personal information and money most especially when you travel,” says PSBank First Vice President for Information Security Dan Jose Duplito.

Visa Launches “Lukot-lukot, Bilog-bilog” and Uses National Heroes to Provide Financial Education to Young Filipinos

Visa launched Lukot-lukot, Bilog-bilog (Crumpled, Round), an interactive play featuring national heroes, developed with Tanghalang Pilipino (TP), the resident drama company of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) designed to educate and empower the Filipino youth to make informed financial decisions. This is the first program of its kind launched by Visa in the Philippines in support of the government’s National Strategy for Financial Inclusion spearheaded by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.

Lukot-lukot, Bilog-bilog will showcase common scenarios faced by a Filipina senior high school student protagonist named Gwyneth who is challenged to make decisions between her needs and wants. Native Filipino heroes such as Jose Rizal and Apolinario Mabini will also ‘come alive’ from the crumpled bills and rounded coins to help the main character make wise decisions.

The launch also included a panel discussion on the importance of financial literacy in the Philippines, including panelists such as Dan Wolbert, Visa Philippines Head of Sales, Pia Roman-Tayug, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Head of Inclusive Finance Advocacy, Nanding Josef, Tanghalang Pilipino Artistic Director, and Patricia Feria-Lim, Teach for the Philippines Chief Strategy Officer.

“At Visa, we strongly believe in the importance of financial literacy and it is a key area of focus as part of our corporate social responsibility efforts. Hence, with the support of BSP, we created this financial literacy program and interactive play through Lukot-lukot, Bilog-bilog where the Filipino youth can relate to various scenarios on making money management decisions. With millennials forming a large population in the Philippines, we believe it is crucial to spread the knowledge of how to manage their money at a young age, and to highlight the importance of making smart monetary decisions,” said Stuart Tomlinson, Visa Country Manager for the Philippines and Guam.

Starting October, the show will be performed in close to 10 different schools to make financial literacy education more accessible to the students. This program is aligned with the government’s National Strategy for Financial Inclusion, in particular, the pillar on financial education and consumer protection.

“We believe that financial education should be introduced to learners early on, especially key concepts including budgeting, investing, and setting financial goals. Innovative approach such as blending education and art are most welcome and can help the existing programs of the government. This is a tangible support from the private sector of the objectives of the NSFI, particularly the pillars on financial education and consumer protection,” says Pia.

“The informative and interactive performances will stimulate creativity and challenge its audience on their perception of money,” says Nanding Josef, Tanghalang Pilipino Artistic Director. With the creative direction of TP, the play will spark critical thinking in these youths on the value of money. “By presenting economic concepts in realistic and entertaining situations, we hope that audiences will find it easier to apply their learnings in their daily lives,” added Nanding.

Visa’s financial literacy initiative also aims to reach out to students under Teach for the Philippines, a program Visa has been actively involved with previously.

“Experiential learning has been proven to be an effective method for encouraging mastery and understanding. At Teach for the Philippines, we believe that programs which incorporate financial literacy and theater arts in academics develop the critical life skills of our learners. We look forward to a continued partnership with Visa Philippines, BSP, and Tanghalang Pilipino to bring our learners closer to their full potential and enable them to contribute meaningfully to nation building,” said Patricia.

“We want to secure the future of the Filipino youth and are committed to forging the path to financial literacy and inclusion. We envision the program to reach more students throughout the country in the coming years,” added Stu.

The Falafel you get here will taste the same, if not better, than the ones you get in the streets of Israel. We make sure that what we will be serving to our customers are not only affordable, but also fresh, authentic, and are guaranteed to fill their empty stomachs,” He adds.

Usually served in a pita bread with a choice of vegetables, hummus, and tahini sauce, falafel is perfect for holding and snacking on the move.

Guy on their menu, “We have a very focused menu and that allows us to deliver the very best in authentic Israeli falafels. At the same time, we also want to cater to other people who maybe aren’t familiar with Israeli cuisine and introduce them to falafels.”
